IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Principal's Weekly Message

Hello Coyotes!

I hope everybody is safe and well after the intense storm to start the week and the earthquake. Our region received such an incredible amount of rain and then the earthquake was another reminder of how important it is for all of us to be prepared! I want to commend our students, teachers, staff, and, especially, our custodial and maintenance staff for doing such a great job being flexible and responsive with the effects of the storm and for their quick response in inspecting the campus after the earthquake. Thank you!!

Congratulations to all of our Winter season athletes for their excellent performances in the CIF playoffs. Our students have performed with heart and grit and they have been excellent ambassadors of the the CHS community.

IMPORTANT: We are already working on next year's master schedule. An essential component of this process is students putting in their course requests. Please see the Course Requests in Aeries section of this newsletter (below) for information and a "how to" video.

Pick-Up Reminder (repeat): Please do not block the exit lane at the Mulholland Light during pick-up or drop off. It is important that we have one lane of traffic entering campus and one lane of traffic leaving campus.

Have a great weekend, Coyotes!

Sincerely,

Bennett Wutkee

Principal

Important All School Updates

COVID-19 Test Kits Available in the Health Office

We want to remind our CHS families that our health office has a supply of COVID home tests available. We recommend you plan ahead to have COVID-19 tests on hand, and test immediately if you feel sick. Please have your student stop in the health office to pick up free tests.

Motorized Bikes

With the increasing popularity of motorized bikes, we have received guidance from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department regarding licensing and age requirements for students that wish to ride these to school. For motorized bikes with no pedals, the operator needs to be at least 15 1/2 years-old and have a Class C license. Students that are underaged and/or not licensed to ride these motorized bikes to school may be cited by law enforcement.

Parking on City Streets

As more students get their driver's licenses and start driving to school, parking on the streets adjacent to CHS is becoming more crowded. We have received reports of students blocking driveways to residences and businesses, parking on sidewalks, and even parking on the lawn/yard of our neighbors. None of this acceptable and students need to stop these practices. We have been informed that law enforcement will be monitoring parking on the city streets more closely and cars will be cited that are inappropriately parked.

Morning Parking Protocol

Parents/Guardians:  Please do not park in the lower Senior lot in the mornings as these are spots that are purchased and assigned individually to students. Parents are not permitted to park and wait in their cars on campus during morning drop off. Please be mindful as this will help with morning traffic congestion and will allow for students to park and get to class in a timely manner.

Counseling Corner
Counselors Launch Course Selection Season for Fall 2024!

Over the last few weeks, counselors visited students in their English classes to review their course options and share important information for their grade level.

We now have additional resources available on our Scheduling website and will have a variety of support opportunities available to students over the next few weeks, including:

  • Zoom drop-in sessions for students and parents
  • Walk in visits before school, at nutrition, lunch, and after school
  • Lunch "Quad Time" for student Q&A

Counselors will meet one-on-one with all current 9th-11th grade students in their English classes between February 20th - March 15th to solidify course choices.

Prior to these visits, students will need to select their six first choice courses in AERIES when the window opens below (video tutorial will be available on the scheduling website soon).

Please take advantage of these helpful resources as your student plans their 2024-2025 school year.

We encourage students to be thoughtful in their course choices - take your time, ask questions, and be mindful of your extracurricular and outside involvements that may impact your time.
